As an expert in design, B2Launch Visual Design Director Kimberly Witchey shares her perspective, insight, and journey of building a career in the creative space. With over two decades of experience working with advertising and marketing teams, Kimberly brings an immense amount of knowledge to B2Launch’s projects and visual communications for both the company and our clients. Read on to learn more about Kimberly’s talents and her career journey in visual communications.  

What inspires you to do the creative work you do? 

I am a creative thinker by nature, always mapping things out in my head with pictures and different layouts. From work to family gatherings to home interiors. Clean lines, neutral palettes, pops of color, and thoughtful design inspire me. Working as a creative leader allows me to do this every day. I love bringing order to chaos through visual communication. Making sense out of complicated ideas through thoughtful design solutions is what truly fulfills me. 

What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job?  

I am an active listener who hears and responds to specific client needs and challenges. I am extremely deadline driven and understand the importance of delivering a piece on time. I honor my word. I am organized and work efficiently to ensure on-time deliverables.  

What value do you bring to B2Launch clients? 

I bring more than just design skills to the table. I carefully research, organize, and put strategic thought into every job I work on, delivering thoughtful design solutions that most importantly solve business problems. 

How has B2Launch elevated your career and your experience with design?  

Working with B2Launch gives me the opportunity to work alongside others who share my passion of putting beautiful, hard-working pieces out into the wild. I like working in B2Launch’s cross-discipline team. We collectively keep the client’s growth strategy in mind. As a result, I am able to have freedom in my own creativity while simultaneously creating even more impactful and successful design deliverables. As part of the B2Launch team, I get to work with so many different personalities. This has helped me hone my skills in communication and allowed me to be nimble in my thinking depending on who I’m talking to and how they hear and respond to my feedback and insights. 

What advice do you have for those who are considering a career in visual communications?  

Look at the world around you – there is inspiration everywhere. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. There are no bad ideas. Get going. Just do it. Get all of your ideas out of your head and refine as you go. Bring your passion for design to the table but try not to take negative feedback personally – remember that this is just business. It’s okay to disagree when it comes to design (everyone has an opinion and design solutions are fun to nitpick) but if you can always map your idea back to the brand, you’re on the right track. Collaborate with your clients to make something equally beautiful and hard-working. Follow the brand guidelines but don’t be afraid to play outside of the box. Try to find that little piece of goodness and delight in every design you work on. White space is your friend.  

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

When I’m not at my desk, you can most likely find me hanging out with my dog, Koa. He brings me endless joy and warms my heart every day with his sweet smile and puppy-dog eyes. I love to cook and try new recipes with my partner, Adam. Hosting dinner parties and planning our next vacation makes us incredibly happy. At the end of the day, all I really want to do is hang out with my dog, dream up my next meal, and create something beautiful.
